Podcasts
Podcasts are an excellent way for anyone to share their content. This seems to be becoming more popular nowadays, and it allows users to have a big audience listening to so many ideas, opinions, lectures, and many other features. Here are a few podcasts that I am reviewing:
This podcast is free and it allows users to be able to create, promote, and monetize their podcast. You can create podcasts right from your phone with the podcast recording app. Users can publish audio and video in one simple platform that allows you to grow an audience. Podbean’s free plan includes five hours worth of storage space. Users can upgrade if they need more storage or bandwidth. The unlimited audio is $9 a month that allows for unlimited storage and bandwidth.
Pros:
Podcasts can be edited/cut and saved.
Podbean will host your podcast episodes for free.
If you pay for a plan, you’ll have access to a bunch of monetization features.
You can add intro music.
Cons:
Support queries do take about 24 hours.
There is some limited variety, design, and functionality.
2.
SoundCloud is a site that is more known for listening to music, but SoundCloud is also a site to do Podcasts. It is not a dedicated podcast hosting platform which means that it is not well used. I feel the website is hard to navigate and is not very user friendly. It can eventually get the job done, but there are other podcast sites that are more useful. Users can upload three hours of audio for free(Podcasts can’t be created, audio is being uploaded) and pay $16 a month for PRO Unlimited.
Pros:
There is a free plan available.
It allows users who have a WordPress Website to add the podcast to their page easily.
Cons:
There are no features available such as private podcasting or show notes.
Site is mainly for streaming music.
3.
Anchor is a Spotify- owned podcast that allows users to record, edit, and upload podcasts in one place. Anchor is an all-in-one podcasting platform. That means that you can create, distribute, grow, and monetize your podcast in their app or website. Even if you have a podcast made from another platform, you can use Anchor to take advantage of Spotify’s free growth tools.
Pros:
All podcasts tools in one place
Easy monetization
100% free
Publish to Spotify in one click
Ability to ask people to join the podcast
Cons:
Anchor doesn’t allow you to host multiple shows.
It is Spotify owned
Our Choice:
We chose to use Podbean for our podcast because I feel it works best. Here is the podcast my partner and I created:
Podcasts in the Library:
Podcasts can be used in the library in so many ways. First of all librarians can create podcasts for students on new books, technology, and other aspects that they would like to listen to. For the staff and community, the librarian can recommend books or promote future events. There could also be weekly podcasts where students can actually create a book review or have conversations about a book topic.
The following sites have some excellent educational podcasts:
The House of #EdTech Podcast shares stories from teachers and creators about education technology.

Jennifer Gonzalez interviews educators, students, administrators and parents about the psychological and social dynamics of school

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed listening to your podcast over ways to promote the library. You provided an article as textual support and provided examples for how to implement this and engage the community. Having student led promotions and taking their input into account is important. I also used PodBean for my podcast because it seemed like the best choice. I really enjoyed using that website, but I didn't know how to include intro and concluding music. I need to learn how so I can use it next time! Thanks.
Amanda,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your ideas for promoting the library. It was cool how you added the music before and after your podcast. I also liked how you shared your different podcasts for specific ages. Way to go!
Hi Amanda, fantastic job with your podcast. I love how you were able to succinctly explain how to be an engaging librarian who can promote the use of the library. Social media is so important and the fact that you mentioned replying to comments as well is vital to make sure we're not passive in our promotion. I never thought about using student posts in order to promote the library so this was definitely a great listen. Thanks for sharing!
